Hello Friends,
My son is a high school senior. He's a great kid, eats like a horse, plays sports and video games. He's working on college essays and being tutored for the ACT. Normal kid stuff.
It often strikes me that although our Opportunity Fund scholar Ibrahim is doing the same things right now, how different his path has been.
Just today I watched a new documentary that was made about Ibrahim by a filmmaker called Madeleine Kate McGowan, who is affiliated with the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.
The film is called "Ibrahim". It's 21 minutes long. It's a thoughtful piece, quiet and powerful.
"Nostalgia for a home that is no longer there'. Two years in a row, we traveled
around Jordan in the Middle East and through the borderlands of Syria.
One day when we were volunteering at a refugee youth centre in Amman,
we became friends with Ibrahim - a 17 year old young man from Iraq,
who fled two wars with his family, the American-led war in Iraq
and the war in Syria. We spoke to him about his favourite tree,
dreams, Jinn creatures, memories, heroes and his concept of home."
The "FOUR YEARS TO CHANGE THE WORLD" campaign is helping identify other Ibrahims out there. This year's campaign aims to raise $50,000 toward the Opportunity Fund.
