Ten years ago, as a class we traveled to Jordan at the invitation of our friend and classmate. Not only did we experience the tremendous breadth of Jordan’s history and culture, but also we made a pledge to raise $1 million dollars to support King Abdullah II’s vision of a new college preparatory school in Jordan.
Over the course of the next years we raised $652,000 which was transferred to Kings Academy in 2012. The money is about 2/3 of the promise we made, and has become the foundation for the perpetual funding source for the Class of 1980 Scholarship. With the economy in better shape, we anticipate that these promises will be fulfilled, as we reach for greater goals.
Diverse Activities
Our vision as an organization is to support King’s Academy in diverse and creative ways. To date, we have:
Hosted KA alumni for up to 12 months while they attended college in the US
Provided mentorship to King’s future graduates on university visits to the US
Assisted King’s Academy fundraising via meetings around the US
Sent an attendee every King’s graduation from 2011 to 2015
Provided unexpected expenses, such as travel expenses for a KA applicant
Begun to build an Internship and Mentorship web site.
Our Scholarship Fund
By far, our greatest accomplishment is in establishing the Class of 1980 Fund which now pays the full tuition for one King’s Academy student “of great promise and modest means.”. The current Class of 1980 scholar, Sirina A________, now a sophomore, graduates in 2017.
