Results of the 2017 Captains Challenge for King’s Academy

The inaugural Captains Challenge for King’s Academy is officially in the record books, in more ways than one.

The primary goal for the Challenge was to raise awareness of King’s, thereby increasing the opportunity to engage new donors.

To accomplish this goal, we challenged the Captains of the 16 Deerfield Academy Varsity Athletic Teams from 1980 – [no seriously!] to reach out to their teammates.

The Challenge was competitive – the teams were to compete with each other in 4 categories: Percentage of Giving (an advantage for smaller teams), Total Number of Donations (advantage to larger teams), Largest Team Donation and Largest Single Donations, which is where the energy and camaraderie of the teams comes into play.

First, the overall results:

  • ALL teams donated

  • ALL teams made the leader board

  • 5 teams donated at greater than 50% and

  • 25% are first-time/new donors.

In the Team Competition:

  • Percentage of Donations, Soccer and Golf were TIED with 67%, and Squash had 63%, followed by Baseball & Cross Country (50%), Hockey with 48% and Tennis with 36%

  • In Number of Donations, Soccer won followed by Football, Hockey, Baseball, Lacrosse and Golf.

  • In Largest Total Team Donation, Soccer won followed by Swimming and Football, Baseball, Water Polo, and Golf.

  • And in Largest Single Donation, Swimming and Water Polo won (a tie), followed by soccer, basketball, football and golf (tie); then Hockey, Baseball, Track and Skiing (tie); followed by Squash, Cross Country (tie); and Lacrosse, Wrestling, Tennis and Sailing (tie).

The winner is: The Soccer Team.

It was a great competition, and great result for King’s Academy!!
