What the Teachers are Saying about Our Scholar

During the school year, we reached out to Ibrahim's teachers to get a fuller picture of our Opportunity Fund Scholar, Ibrahim. We all think's he's a remarkable young man, but what do the teachers who interact with him every day have to say?

Recall that Ibrahim and his family escaped Iraq, then Syria, and that he missed two important years of school before a mentor pushed him in the direction of King's Academy, where we selected him as the second recipient of our Scholarship. (Our first Scholar, Sirina, is in college in the UK). Also important - English is his second language.

Here's what his AP Language Arts teacher, Ms. Pinto, wrote about Ibrahim:

"Ibrahim is a model student, in every sense of the term; he is bright, diligent, and hard working, and his enthusiasm for learning is palpable the moment he walks into the classroom. In terms of his writing, Ibrahim's recent essays reflect significant improvement; his thesis statements are more focused, his introductions are better developed and and provide sufficient context, and his sentence structure is clearer.

"Going forward, I would encourage him to continue his thoughtful changes he has been making to his writing process. As for his rhetorical analysis, it is clear that the changes Ibrahim has been implementing have indeed been useful. His understanding of the texts has become deeper and more nuanced, which has in turn led to stronger participation in class discussions.

"I would like to commend Ibrahim for the excellent effort he has been dedicating to this class, and I look forward to seeing him achieve all his goals as we progress through the year."

Great news about Ibrahim's studies... thought you'd like to know!
